Elsewhere on the Web : Kramnik vs. Leko
January 31, 2004
First some international chess news:
-
The first Super Grandmaster tournament of the year, the
2004 Corus Tournament,
saw victory by the popular Indian GM.
'Viswanathan Anand didn't take any unnecessary risks in the last round of the Corus Chess Tournament. With White against Ivan Sokolov, he drew after 14 moves, thereby securing first place with a score of 8.5 out of 13.'
Rating experts calculate that Anand's performance makes him world no.2 after Kasparov.
-
ChessBase reported that the
Kramnik vs. Leko World Championship match is on again.
'The Swiss tobacco company Dannemann has just announced that the Classical Chess World Championship between Vladimir Kramnik and Peter Leko will be staged from September 25 to October 18, at a still to be disclosed location.'
There is no mention of reunification either by ChessBase or by
Dannemann
(under Schach WM 2004).
Then some cosmic chess news:
-
Chess cleared of satanic links
'A Russian Orthodox archbishop has laid to rest a young parishoner's concern about chess and reassured her that the centuries-old game is not the work of the devil'.
