In the United States, the results of the 2005 ChessCafe.com Grand Prix were announced in March. GM Jaan Ehlvest of New York won 1st prize with 405.64 points, ahead of GM Aleks Wojtkiewicz (MD, 370.33), and GM Ildar Ibragimov (CT, 278.54). Wojtkiewicz had won 1st prize for each of the six previous years, ahead of Ibragimov and Ehlvest in 2005.

Of the many events whose results are used to calculate Grand Prix points, a few offer the symbolic figure of 100 points or more. The events that reached this level in 2006 are listed in the following table by the date of each event's final round.

The two events marked '(N)' are National Events, co-sponsored by the USCF. Wojtkiewicz won the 6-round National Open (Las Vegas, NV), on tiebreak over four other players who also finished with 5.0 points. Yury Shulman won clear first in the 9-round U.S. Open (Chicago, IL) with 8.0 points, a half-point ahead of ten players tied for 2nd-11th places.
